GMM to release 4-disc set ‘Graspop Metal Meeting 1996 – 2015’
May 07, 2015
Graspop Metal Meeting’s twentieth anniversary seemed like the perfect excuse to release a four-disc compilation in collaboration with Warner Music. ‘Graspop Metal Meeting 1996–2015’ is the very first Graspop Metal Meeting compilation set!
Tom De Bock, Product Manager Compilation for Warner Music Benelux, explains: “The festival is celebrating its twentieth anniversary and we felt this was the perfect opportunity to look back on two decades of metal. Warner Music, Bob Schoenmaekers and GMM DJ Carl Grillet put their heads together to draw up a list of the biggest, eye-catching and/or memorable bands to perform here over the years. Our list quickly grew to 80 bands so we realised early on we would easily fill 4 CDs. Still, the list was never meant to be exhaustive because that would simply be impossible”.
Offering an impressive 70 tracks, the compilation features highlights from two decades of Graspop history. The list obviously includes such Graspop regulars as Iron Maiden (7 GMM appearances), Motörhead (7x ), My Dying Bride (9x), Slipknot (6x), Obituary (6x), Hatebreed (7x), Arch Enemy (7x), Within Temptation (7x), Saxon (8x) and Epica (7x). The set also includes a number of tracks that have never featured on a compilation CD: Iron Maiden’s ‘Number of the Beast’, Marilyn Manson’s ‘The Beautiful People’, Parkway Drive with ‘Dark Days’, System of a Down’ with ‘Toxicity’, Megadeth’s ‘Hangar 18’… A unique compilation in more ways than one!
‘Graspop Metal Meeting 1996-2015’ is available as from now via iTunes, and as from 15 May in Fnac, Media Markt and Bilbo stores nationwide. The compilation will also be available at this year’s festival!
